We do custom home renovations with a focus on custom wood trim finishing.
LATEST PROJECT:
One of our more recent floor installations , Hickory with Black Walnut border and inlay
“Narrow Escape”, a vacation rental property overlooking beautiful Seymour Narrows just north of Campbell River B.C. In this renovation we used extensively some Douglas Fir material reclaimed from a 1930 Dairy Farm Barn we deconstructed in the Cowichan Valley, Saltair B.C.
The flooring upstairs is 7 and 8 inch plank, The front door is made from one piece of 8×8×16’ re-sawn into 2 ½” thick planks. For the deck surface we used some old 2×6 tongue and groove cedar siding off the Elk Falls sawmill, re-sawed off the edges and rounded them to make decking, the wood served 30 years as siding and made and excellent deck material.
The colour and patina of old lumber is hard to match for flooring and it is much more stable than newly sawed lumber as it has already had up to 100 years of seasonal movement. Every stick sits in a Lumber Drying Kiln at up to 180 degrees for 2 weeks and gets dried down to 6 to 10% moisture content.
